Christmas wish list...

As I study Fashion Management at RGU, this blog was originally set up as part of my coursework. Unfortunately, this will be my last post.

I've absoloutly LOVED writing this blog and as I developed the perfect winter wardrobe for highstreet prices, I have realised I have also created a Christmas wish list. The more I have been researching the trends for Autumn/Winter 2010, the more I realise how much money I could actually spend if I'm not careful! So for everything that I have not been able to afford, I will certainly be asking Santa for!!

Hope that all you fashionistas out there have enjoyed building up your winter wardrobes and have a very Merry Christmas!!

Its been a while!...

So it's been a while since my last blog post girls...the weather has been absoloutly horendous and I've been so stressed with Christmas shopping! Every time I attempt it, I always end up just buying little treats for myself that I just can't resist! Will have to invest in a personal shopper next year to keep me out of Topshop, they just keep stealing my money, honestly!!

With the extreme arctic weather conditions that are sweeping over Scotland just now, Ive not been the most graceful, I'll admit it, I've been slipping and sliding all over the place and so I have came to the conclusion that every fashionista needs at least one sensible pair of shoes for the winter and so I invested in my first pair of wellies!! I used to think that they were completely naff but in the past few years, my feet have braced the rain and snow and its not very pleasant...so I've given in. Lucky for me they are very much in style for the winter and the perfect addition for your winter wardrobe!!

Have a look at these celebs showing of their winter wellies...

Hunter wellies are the classic wellington boots; simple and fashionable and of the highest quality. But for me, especially due to Topshop stealing all my Christmas shopping money, it was the cheaper alternative. This website is great for a range of different wellies at different prices so check it out, or hit the highstreet for pair...if they're not sold out. We are after all, practically living in the North Pole...

Leopard print...

I love, love, LOVE everything leopard print and I always have. If i see something leopard print, I just have to have it. That's why when I saw a cosy leopard throw in Primark this weekend for only £15, I couldn't leave without it. Oh come on girls, its winter and I'm stuck in freezing cold Aberdeen so why not?! I'll be all cosied up on the sofa this week, wrapped up in my throw with a glass of wine...what could be better!

Anyway, I was so excited to see that leopard print is all over the runways this season, from furry coats to dresses, bags and lingerie, its literally everywhere and I couldn't be happier! Have a look at what gorgeous leopard print the designers have been displaying on the catwalk forAutumn/Winter 2010 , I think that I might be in love...

Animal print has been a major trend during 2010 and I seriously hope that it stays fashionable for 2011! I think that it's absoloutly gorgeous and so sexy! Some may argue that leopard print is tacky and for anyone that says that, they just haven't seen it being worn in the right way! If you dont fancy a leopard print coat or dress, glam up the little black dress with leopard print killer heels or clutch bag...stunning! Have a look at what the highstreet is offering for all you fashionista's who love animal print just as much as me...meow!

Rehab retro...

So I mentioned before that kohl eyeliner is a massive make up trend for Autumn/Winter 2010 alongside statement red lips and luminous matte skin. But that's not the only look you can go for this season girls, because retro eyeliner a la Amy Winehouse is also back and what better way to make your eyes really stand out?! Tonnes of celebrities are embracing this look including Scarlett Johansson, Peaches Geldof and Dita Von Teese and if you match retro eyes with gorgeous bright red lips it will create the perfect pin-up girl look. Stunning. Have a look at these celebs showing off their sexy retro eyes for the photographers, and remember, the look doesn't have to be as extreme as the way Amy Winehouse works it!

The best way to achieve this look is with liquid eyeliner instead of pencil so try Superdrug and Boots for brands like Maybelline and Rimmel for the cheaper alternative to this make up. Get yourself a pair of false eyelashes aswell to really draw attention to your eyes on a big night out!

Snow white...

White legs are just not attractive in summer. It's all about keeping your legs terrifically tanned and showing them off in sexy summer dresses. So much effort, and to be honest, I don't have the best legs in the world anyway so I don't really mind covering up in the colder weather with some wooly tights! Usually dark coloured tights are what people go for during winter, but this season white legs are in fashion, so bring on the opaque white tights and leggings girls!

They are all over the catwalk this year and can be worn in so many ways. I'd suggest sticking to black and white though as it is always going to be classic and timeless. White tights were big in the 70s and now that they're back they will fit in perfectly with your winter wardrobe. Wear them with the little black dress and black heels for the black and white look and team with bright red lips. Gorgeous.

I'm not too sure. They might just make my legs look even worse. But for all you fashionistas who have been blessed with gorgeous pins, don't hestiate in buying a pair, they will look great. I'm jealous. But I had to have a look at where I could find them on the highstreet, you know, just incase I wake up one day with legs like Beyonce...

Smooth velvet...

I know what you're thinking, the velvet trend should stay in the 90s where it belongs. That's what I thought too at first, I've never been a big fan, but recently I've noticed that velvet is back and it's not looking as bad as it did back then! So you might be as pleasantly surprised as I was when you see what's on offer.

As it's quite a clingy fabric, be careful how you wear it, it might not suit everyone. It can be worn in many different ways, from grunge to extremely elegant but however you choose to wear it, try to keep it simple so the look isn't too overpowering! And even if you dont fancy going all out and investing in a velvet dress or blazer for your winter wardrobe, or your bank balance isn't looking too healthy, have a look around for some velvet accessories such as headbands, bows and handbags. This will help to keep the look minimal, but will also look stunning. Have a look at velvet making its comeback on the runway...

If you're still not convinced, have a look at what the highstreet has to offer as a cheaper alternative...or even check out some charity shops for some 90s throwbacks!

Naughty Vivienne...

Most designers bring out jewellery, accessories and fragrances for the fashionista's who can't afford a designer wardrobe but still want a hint of the designer lifestyle which is more affordable. And with Christmas coming up, its the perfect time to get your hands on Vivienne Westwood's new fragrance, "Naughty Alice".

It's described as being "a warm and sexy fragrance for modern women" and the reviews online are looking pretty good aswell. Think I'll be adding this to my Christmas Wish List girls...

Keep your hands warm...

Accessorising is so important for finishing off an outfit and giving it that little something extra. So winter is the perfect season for accessorising with cosy gloves, hats and scarves!

Girls, the best place to start is your hands, so invest in a pair of gloves to keep your hands nice and warm. Whether you go for a pair of sleek, stylish leather gloves or a pair of warm, knitted mitts, make sure to keep them versatile enough to go with any outfit in your rapidly growing winter wardrobe! Have a look at these designer hand warmers, they're gorgeous and oh so tempting but unfortunately at the higher end of the price scale...

When looking for the cheaper alternative, you should have no problem finding a pair to suit you as they are literally everywhere! Try highstreet stores like Primark, Miss Selfridge, Warehouse, Topshop, River Island and New Look or just click on the links below to have a look at a few of my personal favourites...

A puff of smoke...

If you've gone out and bought yourself a gorgeous pair of kitten heels like me, I mentioned that they could be worn with a pair of cigarette pants...so for all you fashionista's, I'd recommend getting your hands on a pair! Big designers such as Stella McCartney, Valentino and Prada are displaying the cigarette pants all over their runways this season; they are without a doubt, timeless.

Before I go out and buy the latest trend, I like to be absoloutly sure that what I'm buying won't go out of fashion in a week or two and I'll have ended up wasting my precious pennies. That's why I do my research online before I splash my cash. So, I was looking up cigarette pants and fashionforlunch.com confirms for me that they are back:

"Masculine power dressing for women became cemented in 1966 when Yves Saint Laurent designed the Le Smoking, the feminine tuxedo. The long mannish combo gave way for women to wear clothes commonly reserved for men, something that is still being reinvented to this day with the revival of the cigarette pant."

Elle suggests that when choosing cigarette pants we should "stick to a strict palette of cream, navy and black. Once a fashion sin, navy and black is now one of the most elegant autumn colour combinations." and Vogue says that we should "choose a skinny boyish fit and team with heels for feminine flair."

Here are some examples of the trend; designer and overly priced...

These cigarette pants are selling for around £200. Crazy. Click on the links below and they will take you to the cheaper alternative...happy shopping girls!

Make it up...

I don't know about you, but I personally couldn't imagine a world without make up! Getting out of bed on cold winter mornings is hard enough without being greeted by a plain, pale face when looking in the mirror. That's why I like to keep on top of all the latest beauty trends for each season, and this will be no different! After all, whats the point in having a fabulous winter wardrobe if you're not going to make the most of you beautiful faces as well?!

So apparently, matte skin with a luminous finish is the look for Autumn/Winter 2010. Wear this with piercing red lips and kohl eyeliner to finish off the look. It's classic, bold and certainly beautiful! Here's some examples...

Looks brilliant doesn't it? If you've got the cash to splash of course, try Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel for make up like this; if not, stick to the cheaper alternative and look for Rimmel, Maybelline and Loreal products, it will look just as gorgeous!

Hello kitty...

Like most fashionista's I tend to think of Vogue as being the Fashion Bible. So, I do believe that kitten heels are going to be 100% on trend this season!

To quote the Bible: "Designers have shown that the kitten heel can be equally as appealing as an elaborate stiletto this season. Louis Vuitton and Prada models walked the runway in pointed slingbacks (studded and patent, respectively), and even King-of-the-6-Inch-Heel, Christian Louboutin has included kitten heels in his autumn/winter 2010 collection. No longer must your incredible platforms stomp unsteadily down corridors - now you can safely clickety-clack your way to work in style."

So there's no doubt about it girls, they're back and they're the perfect addition to your winter wardrobe! But how do we wear them?

Try a pair of kitten heels with studs or leather straps to give them a bit of a Valentino edge...but for a more ladlike approach wear them with prim skirts and nipped in waists; or they will look equally great with a pair of cropped skinny jeans or cigarette pants. Whatever the choice, they're going to look great and be totally fashionable, after all, who wants to be wobbling about in killer stiletto heels when its snow and ice outside? Certainly not me!

Have a look at these gorgeous designer kitten heels...

(Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin)

Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be getting my hands on a pair of these ridiculously expensive shoes until I'm finished my degree and in a very important, high flying job...at least, thats the plan! So for now it looks like I'll be hitting the highstreet to see what the cheaper alternative is...have a look at what I found...

The cosy cardigan...

So girls, now that you've got your warm fur coat and your statement dress sorted for evening wear this winter..what does an on trend fashionista wear during the day? Well, I'll let you in on a little secret, cosy granny cardigans are 100% in style this winter. Everybody remembers putting on that cosy jumper or cardigan that granny knitted you on the cold winter nights when you were younger and now it is an essential for your winter wardrobe.  Whether your cardi is just a simple plain knit or full of bold and bright patterns and colours, the effect is always going to be the same, it keeps you warm and comfortable as well as fashionable.

Wear an oversized cosy cardi or jumper with leggings and Uggs this winter for a seriously stylish daytime look.

And for the cheaper alternative check out all the highstreet stores to find bargains like these ones..just click on the links below for some examples of what you will find and where to find them!

Make it versatile...

The great thing about the fur coat is that it is versatile! Wear it during the day for a casual look and glam it up in the evenings! Wear your fur coat with a statement dress this winter; another must-have for your winter wardrobe. Bright block colour dresses are very much in fashion this season, but if thats not your kind of thing, the little black dress will always be in style. Have a look at these gorgeous dresses block colour dresses that celebrities have been spotted wearing on the red carpet...

And the little black dress...

Unfortunately, not all of us can be Paris Hilton or Jennifer Aniston, so click on these links to have a look at the cheaper alternative...

Fur too expensive...

Fur is said to be this seasons "instant glamour hit" by Vogue and so a fur coat is an essential for any fashionista's winter wardrobe this season!

Although fur is a very controversial subject within the fashion industry, designer Karl Lagerfeld defends the fur industry, justifying it by saying that the "beasts' would "kill us if they could". He compares using the fur of animals as fashion to the matter of eating meat. Why should it be any different? Yves Saint Laurent has also spoken about the controvesy admitting himself that he would not wear fur, but there is however "an industry who lives from that". Very true. I however, would not invest in a real fur coat for the simple reason of it being far too expensive. Why spend a ridiculous amount of money on a designer fur coat when you can buy one that is just as fashionable on the high street for a much cheaper price?!

Below are some pictures of designer fur coats that have been spotted on the catwalk for Autumn/Winter 2010...

For a cheaper alternative to these furs try high street stores such as Topshop and River Island to find gorgeous winter fur coats like these ones...
